第三部分、阅读理解(共 15 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 30 分) 阅读下面的短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A,B,C,D)中,选出最佳选项。 A Packaging is an important form of advertising. A package can sometimes motivate someone to buy a product. For example, a small child may ask for a breakfast food that comes in a box with a picture of a TV character. The child is more interested in the picture than in breakfast food. Pictures for children to color or to cut out, games printed on a package or small gifts inside a box also motivate many children to buy products, or to ask their parents to buy for them. Some packages suggest that a buyer will get something for nothing. Food products sold in reusable container are examples of this. Although a similar product in a plain container may cost less, people often prefer to buy the product in a reusable glass or dish, because they believe the container is free. However, the cost of the container is added to the cost of the product. The size of the package also motivates a buyer. Maybe the package has “Economy Size” or “Family Size” painted on it. This suggests that the large size has the most products for the least money. But that is not always true. To find out, a buyer has to know how the product is sold and the price of the basic unit. The information on the package should provide some answers. But the important thing for any buyer to remember is that a package is often an advertisement. The words and pictures do not tell the whole story. Only the product inside can do that. 56. As used in the passage, the word “motivate” most probably means______. A. making one deep in thought B. providing a story that makes one move C. making one believe what he does is just right D. supplying a thought or feeling that makes one act 57. People are likely to buy the product sold in a glass or dish because ______. A. they believe the cost of the container is included in the cost of the product B. they think they can get the container for free C. the container is too attractive D. they have no other choice 58. Which of the following statements is NOT mentioned in the passage? ______. A. Package is often a successful advertisement B. A buyer is also attracted by the size of the container C. On seeing a well-designed container, a buyer often neglects what is in it D. Children are often encouraged to buy a product by its package with attractive pictures 59. What suggestion does the author give in the passage? ______. A. The quality of the container has nothing to do with the quality of the product B. The best choice for a buyer is to get a product in a plain package C. Don’t buy the product which is sold in a glass or dish D. A buyer should get what he needs most

B The Gisbornes have recently completed a twelve-day trip on their solar-powered electric boat, the Loon. They traveled down the Erie and Oswego canals for twelve days before reaching Albany, New York. Monte Gisborne, the captain of the Loon, said that this marks the first time that anyone has traveled down American canal system using solar electric energy as the primary (主要的) fuel source. The Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company designed the Loon. It is a boat with solar panels (太阳能板) fixed on its top which provide 738 watts of electricity using energy from the sun. It also has a 48 volt deep-cycle battery that has a range of thirty miles. It has a top speed of five miles per hour. The boat is "solar-assisted" rather than "solar-driven" because it has a battery charger (充电器) which is built into the boat. It can help power the boat when the solar panels do not collect enough energy. Monte Gisborne talked about the boat in an interview. "The problem with technology these days is that it produces too much heat and too little energy for motion. My boat is at least eight times more efficient than a gas-powered boat, which means that it saves me a lot of money and keeps the environment clean. Even in these technologically advanced times, some of the more popular gas-powered boats are terribly inefficient, which means that they cost a lot of money to use every day, and they make the water very dirty." He also mentioned that the solar panels can provide the boat with about 16 km of free travel on a sunny day. "For most customers, 16 km is enough and," Monte Gisborne said, "even if you travel 32 km in one day, as long as you don't use it the next day, you have nothing to worry about because the battery won't run out of power." For this reason, these boats are perfect toys for weekend use but not much more than that. It' s best to leave them in the sun during the week to let the battery charge and then use them on weekends. In other words, if you need to use a boat every day you may still need to use a gas-powered boat. 60. From the passage, we can learn that ______________. A. the Loon was the first solar-powered boat to set sail in America B. the Loon gets all its electricity from the sun via solar panels C. Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company designed the first solar-powered boat D. Gisborne first designed the solar panels for the boat 61. What does Gusborne think is the best part of his boat? A. It is almost as fast as other boats. B. It only needs to use energy from water. C. It uses energy more efficiently. D. Its battery charges quickly. 62. What is the shortcoming of the solar-powered boat? A. It is not very good for everyday use. B. It is not environmentally friendly. C. It is not as fast as gas-powered boats.

D. It is too slow for people who use boats a lot. 63. The passage mainly talks about ___________. A. the Gisbornes' 12-day trip to New York B. a new invention to replace gas-powered boats C. the shortcomings of solar-powered boats for everyday use D. the first solar-powered boat across American canal system C The new model is the highly interactive (互动的) learning model. We could also call it the conversational model, or the tutorial model. It is computer based, with the interaction between the student, and a small group of students. It is like the conversation between a student and a skilled tutor. Distance learning will be the main delivery method. Student interaction with the learning material on the computer will use the student's natural language. This is the key point of highly interactive, or conversational learning units. Programs will ask questions in the student's native language, and respond reasonably to free-form student input. An important aspect of this model is that the computer will frequently store information about the student, about problems and about how far the students have progressed. Thus when a student returns to the learning activity, the computer knows about that student and knows where to begin the new part. Global education is important for the future to insure a happy life for all. Education should no longer be limited to the wealthy of the world, but should be available to everyone. In the new learning model, learning can take place in markets, libraries, public buildings, learning centers, and the home. Gradually schools and universities will play a smaller role in learning, both because better learning can be delivered(完 成) through such highly interactive material, and because such learning will be less costly for the student. Motivation is particularly important in distance learning, as the usual threats of traditional classrooms such as that of low grades are no longer possible, Voice input will probably be the mode for this interaction. Keyboards may not be needed. Speech is a natural way for humans to communicate. Students will work in small groups, about four. Other contacts with people, learning circles, will be possible, directly or electronically. 64. The new model does not refer to _______. A. interactive model B. conversational model C. tutorial model D. classroom model 65. Computers can know more about the student’s________. A. future achievements B. intelligence C. problems D. families 66. According to the passage, distance learning ______. A. will be still expensive for ordinary students B. will take place mainly in classrooms C. will play a more important role in students' learning

D. will still affect badly the low-graded students 67. What is the Chinese for the underlined word "tutorial" in the first paragraph? A.辅导 B.教具 C.学费 D.奖学金 D Places on courses and in-college accommodation are limited, so we encourage applicants to apply early to avoid disappointment. This year we will be offering specialist programs in: Ancient Empires, Science, Literature, History, Shakespeare, Medieval Studies and new for 2016, Creative Writing and Hanseatic League. If you are looking to study a number of different subject areas, the Interdisciplinary Summer School is ideal. It is divided into three terms, Interdisciplinary Summer School Term I, Interdisciplinary Summer School Term II and Interdisciplinary Summer School Term III, covering a wide range of subjects including archaeology, politics, philosophy, economics, literature, history and international relations. You can opt to do one or two terms. But most students choose all the three terms. The Cambridge English for Academic Purposes program combines a two-week intensive (强化)language course with a two-week academic program. This allows students to put into practice the language skills they have learned during the first two weeks of the program. Applicants will also have the opportunity to sign up for weekend excursions and take part in various events. If you want to join us in 2016, please click here to download a copy of brochure. If you want to find out more information about 2016 International Summer School, you can visit www.ice.cam.ac.uk/intsummer. They should go to Cambridge by plane. B. They should phone Cambridge. C. They should apply for the program online. D. They should call for an application form. 69. Why are the applicants encouraged to apply early? A. The earlier they apply, the less they will pay. B. There are not enough places for the courses or in-college accommodation. C.
