Most friendships die a natural death: people move, change jobs, or start different stages of life.

Other friendships, however, end unexpectedly. When a friendship is over and you don't understand

why, it can be especially painful. Sometimes a friend ends your relationship without telling you why.

The loss of friendship might be worth reflecting on. Knowing when a friendship is over and why it

ends may help you build stronger friendships in the future.

● See if you can find a problem.

When a friendship is over, examine your relationship. Perhaps you remember your friend

complaining that you're always late. Maybe you seldom return your friends' phone calls. When a friend

ends your relationship, try to find out the reasons why the friendship is over.

● Write a letter to your friend.

Express your feeling about the friendship. Do you miss seeing them? Do you have any regrets

(遗憾)? Would you act differently if you were still friends? Make it an honest communication(交流).

● Express your feelings of hurt or anger.

Write or talk about how you feel in a letter. When a friendship is over, it's important to

communicate exactly how hurt you feel, and why. Write until you have nothing left to say. When a

friend ends your relationship, you do have the right to express yourself.

●Communicate that you are open to picking up the friendship.

When a friendship is over and you want to reconnect (再接合) some day, send Christmas, or

birthday cards. Say hi and send greetings through mutual (共有的) friends. When a friendship is over,

don't give up until you're ready.

● Decide to make your present friendsbips better.

An adviser once told me that simply talking about your relationship strengthens your

relationship. Talk to your present friends. Are they happy with your friendship? If a friend ends your

relationship, learn something from it.

56. The underlined phrase "reflecting on" in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to ____________.

A. giving up

B. thinking about

A. Your friend doesn't work with you any longer.

B. Your friend goes to another place to live.

C. Your friend suddenly refuses to speak to you or even meet you.

D. Your friend leaves for further study in another country.

58. What can we know from "See if you can find a problem"?

A. Perhaps your friendship is over because of your problem.

B. You often refuse to answer your friends' phone calls.

C. Your friend is fond of complaining all the time.

D. You are always late when you and your friend plan to go out.

59. When a friendship is over,we may do all the following EXCEPT _____.

A. write a letter to your friend to tell your regrets

The Taj Mahal is considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and the finest

lighted by the light that passes through double screens of carved marble set high in the walls. The

When some plates of the earth move suddenly, an earthquake happens. Many earthquakes begin

I have been a professional skateboarder (滑板手) for 24 years. For much of that time, the activity

that paid my rent and gave me great joy was considered to be a kid’s fad, a waste of time, a dangerous

sport, and a crime.

When I was about 17, three years after I turned professional, my high school teacher told me I’d

never make a living as a skateboarder in front of the entire class.

6/8

安徽省濉溪中学 2017-2018 学年度第一学期高一年级期末考试英语试题(无答案)

Even during those dark years, I never stopped riding my skateboard and never stopped making

progress as a skater. I have come to realize that the only way to master something is to keep at it even

if you may get hurt or be laughed at by others.

Skateboarding has gained many good comments in recent years, but it still receives negative

comments. Many of the professional skaters I know are fathers, homeowners, world travelers and

successful businessmen. So here I am, 38 years old, a husband and father of three, with a long list of

responsibilities. And although I have many job titles, the one I’m most proud of is “Professional

Skateboarder”.

My youngest son’s pre-school class recently asked what their dads did for work. My son said,

“I’ve never seen my dad work.”

It’s true. Skateboarding doesn’t seem like real work, but I’m proud of what I do. My parents

never once asked whether skateboarding was practical or not, even when I had to save gas money and

regarded dinner at Taco Bell as a big night out, because they knew I loved it. I hope to pass the same

lesson to my children some day. Find the thing you love. You might not make it to the top, but if you

are doing what you love, there ismuch more happiness than being rich or famous.

72. According to the passage, skateboarding ____________________.

.

A. was popular with most of the people when the writer was young

B. was misunderstood but now has gained many good comments

C. is a good way of making a living

D. is very exciting so it is loved by young people

73. Why did the writer list the underlined occupations in Paragraph 4?

A. To tell us what kind of people love the sport.

B. To show there are so many people who love the sport.

C. To remove people’s misunderstanding of skateboarders.

D. To make it clear that skateboarding is just an ordinary sport.

74. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. The writer is doing what he loves though he is a criminal.

B. The writer tried many jobs to find out what he really loves.

C. The writer loves skateboarding thanks to his high school teacher.

D. The writer thinks never giving up is necessary if you want to succeed.

75. The writer wrote the passage to __________

A. call for parents to support their children’s hobby

B. share his experience as a skateboarder with others

C. inspire more people to join in the sport

D. encourage people to do what they love
