Teaching Topic: Unit 3 My Friends Class Type: Listening and speaking class

Teaching Aims: Knowledge aim: Students can listen, read and recognize some words describing a person’s physical appearance. Ability aim: Through cooperation and role play, students can get the ability of describing their friends correctly. Emotional aims: 1. Students can get more interests in learning English. 2. Students can get more interests in caring more about their friends and in cherishing their friendship. Teaching Key Points: 1. Words: tall and strong, short and thin, friendly, quiet 2. Target language: I have a good friend. He’s? Who is he? His name is? Teaching Difficult Points: 1. How to pronounce the new words correctly? 2. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Warming up and lead-in 1. Play a chant. Ask students to sing the chant after the tape and do the actions. Tall, tall, tall. Make yourself tall. Big, big, big. Make your eyes big. Small, small, small. Make your eyes small. Long, long, long. Make your arms long. Short, short, short. Make your arms short. 2. Present a picture and introduce my friend to the students “I have a friend. He is a boy. He is thin. He has short hair. He has a long face. He has two big eyes. He has a long nose. He has a small mouth.” Lead in the topic of this lesson “my friends” and get students to talk about their friend. Step 2: Presentation and practice 1. New Words (1) Show pictures about Yao Ming and Pan Changjiang. Guide students to compare them and lead in the words “tall” and “short” and write them on the blackboard. Enable students to read and spell them. (2) Show a picture and explain that “He is my funny friend, Peter. He has long neck, long arms, long body and long legs. Wa?He is very thin.” Write the word “thin” on the blackboard and get students to read the word after the teacher. (3) Show some foods and set a situation by CAI that my friend, Peter, is eating. Explain that “Peter is very thin. He is eating more and more to make himself strong” .

Write the word “strong” on the blackboard and use the body language to help students understand. Pay much attention to the pronunciation and ask students to read the word after the tape. (4) Present two pictures and guide students to describe them using “tall and strong” and “short and thin”. (5) Show a picture about friend on the screen. Write the word “friend” on the blackboard and stress the pronunciation. Ask students to read it after the teacher. And then present the word “friendly” and help students to separate the syllables in order to read the word correctly. And then guide students to guess the meaning of the word. (6) Present a picture with a remarkable logo “Keep Quiet” and put the index finger near the mouth, and then get students to guess the meaning of the word“quiet” . Write the word on the blackboard and stress the pronunciation. Get students to read it after the tape three times. (7) Enable students to read the new words in different ways. 2. Sentence Patterns (1) Ask students to listen to the dialogue and read after the tape. (2) Get students to find the sentence patterns about describing a friend “I have a good friend. He’s? Who is he? His name is?”. (3) Get students to use the new words and sentences to describe the certain part of their bodies. Step 3: Consolidation

1. Play a “Who’ next?” game: Invite six students to come to the front. Number them from 1 to 6. Get students to give a sentence using the adjectives to describe one of their classmates. And then the student needs to clap hands (at most 6 times). If he/she claps his hands twice, student No. 3 might give a sentence. And the game goes on in this way. If one of them does not give an answer when it is his/her turn, he/she loses the game and has to go back to the seat. The last one to stand here will be the winner. 2. Prepare some pictures of faces, eyes, noses and mouths that are in different shapes and sizes. Ask students to choose every one of them and make a funny face, and then enable students to describe it using the words and sentences. Step 4: Summary and Homework Summary: Ask students to summarize the words and sentences learned in this lesson. Homework: 1.
