甘肃省会宁县第四中学2016届高三上学期第一次月考英语试题 Word版含答案.doc

会宁四中 2015-2016 学年度第一学期高三级第一次月考 英语试卷
(时间:100 分钟; 满分:120 分)? 本试卷分第Ⅰ卷(选择题)和第Ⅱ卷(非选择题)两部分。 第Ⅰ卷 第一部分:阅读理解(共两节, 满分 40 分) 第一节(共 15 小题, 每小题 2 分,满分 30 分) A Mom noticed that something was wrong when I started getting so thirsty. I’d have a lot to drink before bed, which was unusual for me. One time, I opened a big container of apple juice and kept refilling my glass. Before I knew it, I’d drunk the entire container! My mom called my doctor. I then had a few blood tests, and the results were certain — I had diabetes (糖尿病), which meant that the amount of sugar in my blood was very high. That can be dangerous, so I had to learn how to control my blood sugar level. My eating habits had to change in a big way. With diabetes, I can’t eat a lot of sugar or carbohydrates (碳水化合物). I have to figure out exactly how much sugar I plan to eat, and then I get an injection of insulin (注射胰岛素) before the meal to help my body process the food. Also, I test my blood sugar level often. I’m always trying to keep my blood sugar at a healthy level. The level can drop when I exercise, but that doesn’t keep me out of gym class or off the basketball court — I just keep some juice boxes around to boost my blood sugar if I need to. It’s a lot of work — and not a lot of fun — to keep track of everything, but I’ve gotten used to my new habits. I was a little scared at first because I wasn’t sure how my life would change. Once I knew what I needed to do, though, it wasn’t a big deal. My life is different now from what it was before, but it has become completely regular to me. 1. The first paragraph is mainly about _____. A. who found the author had diabetes B. the author’s life before having diabetes C. how the author was found to have diabetes D. the author’s eating habits before having diabetes

2. What did the author do after knowing she had diabetes? A. She stopped playing basketball in the gym. B. She controlled her blood-sugar level strictly. C. She stopped eating food with natural sugar. D. She tested her blood-sugar level before every meal. 3. What does the underlined word “boost” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Increase. B. Control. C. Absorb. D. Test.

4. What’s the author’s attitude toward her having diabetes now? A. Worried. B. Frightened. C. Pessimistic. B The English translations of the names of traditional Chinese dishes on menus across the country have caused public discussion about the precision (准确) of the translations. Since more and more foreigners come to China every day, many restaurants around China are providing English translations of their menus. They want to make it easier for foreign visitors to order Chinese dishes when they travel. Some restaurants also hope that the translations will increase foreigners’ knowledge of Chinese cuisine (烹饪). But an article in China Youth Daily says the English menu translations have not lived up to public expectations. It argues most of the English names of Chinese dishes lack the cultural meaning and attraction of the dishes they describe. Instead, the translations only provide a list of each dish’s ingredients, the article notes. For example, one English name of a Chinese dish appears as “Stir-fried mutton slices with Chinese onion or green scallion (葱爆羊肉)”. Because the English translation focuses only on the ingredients, the author says it fails to describe the dish’s rich cultural meaning and charm. The dish’ s beautiful Chinese name,“Fo Tiao Qiang,” has a story behind it. Buddhist monks (和尚) are required to eat vegetables only, but they cannot resist (忍住) the delicious dish. So, they jump over their temple walls to get a taste of the dish. The article suggests that translators provide more beautiful English translations of the names of Chinese dishes. It also notes a more vivid (生动的) English translation is very important to provide international visitors with a better understanding of Chinese cuisine. 5. Why do many restaurants provide English translations of their menus? D. Positive.

A. B. C. D. 6.

Because they want to show their dishes’ ingredients. Because the public expect them to do so. Because Chinese dishes are popular across the world. Because it is a convenience for foreign travelers. According to China Youth Daily, what’s the main problem of the English menu translations?

Whether you rose five floors or 100, it probably took less than a few minutes. Now imagine riding in an elevator higher and higher as it climbs for nearly a day. When you reach the top floor, prepare for views that are really out of

this world. You’ll be in space! Space elevators might sound like a crazy idea, but they’re something scientists have been working on for decades. Why would anyone want a space elevator? At the moment, riding in a capsule is the only way ordinary people can get to and from space. But those rides are very expensive — about $25 million per person per flight. Researchers are still figuring out the details about how a space elevator might work. One idea is stretching (伸展) a very long cable — more than 37,000 kilometers — up to space from the earth’s equator (赤道). The location is important: Objects in space above the equator orbit (绕??的轨道飞行) the earth at the same speed that our planet turns. A weight on the end of the cable(电缆) would stretch it tight. An elevator tied to the cable could use it to climb up and down. The only problem is that besides being long, this cable must also be very strong. Storms, including hurricanes might break it. One way to solve this problem is to stretch the cable from the moon instead of from the earth. Airplanes designed to climb higher than a typical jet might take off from the earth and link up with the cable, which would be held in place by the pull of gravity from the earth. An elevator car waiting there would then take riders the rest of the way to the moon. Fueled by solar power, the elevator could transport people and materials without much expense or effort per ride. So, when will you be taking your first space-elevator ride? Probably not for a while. 12. The first paragraph is presented by _____. A. giving an example B. making a comparison C. asking questions D. analyzing causes 13. Why have scientists been working on space elevators? A. To make trips to space cheaper. B. To help astronauts do research in space. C. To find a more convenient way to the moon. D. To prove an assumption which seems crazy. 14. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refers to _____.

A. the cable B. the equator C. an object in space D. a weight on the end of the cable 15. What may make the cable stay in place on the moon? A. The elevator car on the moon. B. The elevator fastened to the cable. C. The pull of gravity from the earth. D. The speed of the moon orbiting the earth. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。 选项中有两项为多 余选项。 ____16____.
