Abstract

To identify the different cultural values,Hoftsede used five cultural dimensions to category the cultures,including uncertainty advoice,power distance,long-term orientation,indevidualism/ collectivism,musculine/feminity(Hofstede 1980,1983;Hofstede & Bond 1988).According to those dimensions,Chinese culture holds the features of collectivism,high power-distance, preference to advoice the uncertainty and empirical orientation.Thus similar to some cultures and different to others.Mr. and Mrs.Reily developed the systemetic communication mode,which viewed the communication as a whole system,with the process of intra-personal communication, inter –personal communication, group communication. It should be taken into consideration that the special cultural context penetrates and surrounds the whole system.Therefore,people usually have different communication styles with various values,believes,minds,languages shaped by the culture. This study aimed to describe the landscape of the interculture interpersonal communication experienced by the Chinese students when they studied in Occident countries.The explanation about the special landscape was presented with the reference of relevant theroies about interper -sonal/intercultural inter personal communication.Finally,the mode of the interpersonal relationship building developed by Guo-Ming Chen was employed to analyze the relationship builded by the Chinese students with there Occident partners.Some cultural varieties were also used to analyze the unique of the relationship mode.Research included the effects on the communi –cation process from participants in communication,the means of the communication,the cultural context . The depth-interview method was conducted in the study,and the interviewees were 7 chinese students studied in Occident countries.According to situation of wether they had the experience in interculture interpersonal communication or not ,the interviewee were divided into two groups:one with enough experience,and the other without any experience.With the find of this research, interviwees in the first group could communicate with the Occicent persons at the beginning periond when they arrived at one country.Sometimes they built long-term and stable relationship with their partners and the ability to use english seemed no more an obstacle.However,the member in the other group presented a different picture.Up to the date of the depth-interview,they indicated that they always chose the members in the similar group as the partner in interpersonal communication.And the issues in communication were very limited ,which was contrary to the happening in first gruop members,for the lack of the information about their partners and the boundary built by the language.As a result,they could not build a stable relationship with their partners which was the key point in interpersonal communication. Hofstede 用五种维度将不同文化价值区分开来:不确定性规避(uncetainty avoidance),权利距离(power distance),长期性/历史性思维导向(long-term orientation),个体主义/集体主义(individualism/collectivism),男性/女性 (masculine/feminity) (Hofstede 1980,1983;Hofstede & Bond 1988)。根据文 化的五种维度,中国属于典型的集体主义文化的国家,拥有较高的权利距离。与 他国文化之间既有相似之处,又有迥异之别。Rilay 夫妇(1959)提出传播过程应 当看做一个大系统。个体内部传播,人际传播,群体传播构成了这个传播系统。 不可忽略的是传播系统是处于特定的社会文化背景中。 不同社会文化塑造人们不 同的价值观、信仰、思维模式、语言等等,从而形成独具特色的沟通方式。 本论文研究目的在于描述中国留学生在欧美国家与当地人群在跨文化人际 沟通的图景,并通以人际沟通、跨文化人际沟通的相关理论进行图景解析。本研 究还通过 Guo-Ming Chen 提出的人际关系建立模式探讨访谈中的中国留学生的 跨文化人际关系建立的特征.相关文化变量被用于解析关系建立模式。研究内容 涉及沟通中的主体、沟通方式、文化情境等等对沟通结果的影响。 论文采用深度访谈的研究方法,对 7 名在欧美留学的中国留学生进行深度访 谈。依据被访者在去欧美国家之前是否拥有跨文化人际沟通经验分为两类。一类 是已经拥有丰富的跨文化人际沟通经验, 另一类是完全没有跨文化人际沟通经验。 研究发现,拥有丰富跨文化经验的中国国留学生在初到欧美国家时期,就可以很 有效地与欧美特定人群进行沟通交流, 并与某些沟通对象建立起稳固的人际关系。 语言应用能力不是跨文化人际沟通中的障碍, 而且讨论的主题也不被语言能力所 限制。此类被访者甚至没有在学习和生活中经历过沟通失败状况。而完全没有跨 文化人际沟通经验的被访者, 截至访谈时间仍旧倾向于与相似人群进行沟通交流, 语言应用能力是人际沟通中的一大障碍。受语言应用能力的限制,以及对欧美人 群信息的掌握的不足,人际沟通主题被限制在学习和一些表层的生活情境之中。 中国留学生或是找不到彼此的共同话题,或是想要参与但是不会表达的困境。而 且,此类被访者在访谈中表示并没有与某个或某些欧美人群建立起稳固的关系。 关键词: 关键词:文化 文化差异 人际沟通 跨文化人际沟通 关系
