第三部分 阅读理解 (共 20 小题:每小题 2.5 分,满分 50 分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A.B.C.D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 A The American book Who Moved My Cheese has been a bestseller all over the world. It teaches people how to face changes in their lives. Now its author Spence Johnson has written a book just for teens. The book tells us that when facing change in our lives, like a new school or new friends, don't be afraid. Instead, use this change to make a better life. The book gives an example of a change at school. A school is changing from having two terms to three terms because there are too many students. Several teens are talking about this. Most of them are unhappy and worried. But Chris is not. He laughs and tells a story about two mice, two“little people”and some cheese. The four are in a maze(迷宫) looking for the cheese. Here, cheese means something important in life, like moving to a new class or getting into college. But they find the cheese is gone. The mice realize that they can’t change what has happened and have to find more cheese. This means finding different dreams. The little people, however, can’t do this. They are afraid of change so they find no cheese. After Chris finishes the story, the friends understand one thing: to get more cheese, move in a new direction quickly. His friends understand how this can be used in the changes all teens face, such as doing well at school or having good relationships or just feeling good about yourself. 51. The book Who Moved My Cheese is __________. A. written all over the world B. read across the world

4

C. sold only in America 52. What does the text mainly discuss? A. Never change in our life. C. Change with the changes.

D. loved only by teens

B. Change when you like to do. D. Pay attention to the changes,

53. The underline word “four”(paragraph 3) refers to __________. A. Mice and little people C. Cheese B. Students D. Readers

54. In our lives, we should learn from __________. A. Mice C. Chris B. Little people D. Spence Johnson

55. Which of the following statements is TRUE? A. The author is Britain. B. There are three terms in every school. C. Most teens don't understand Chris' story. D. The book tells teens how to face changes in their lives. B Imagine sailing through the sky, high above buildings and trees, in perfect peace and quiet. No noisy engines. No window with dirty marks in your way. No strong wind blowing in your face. You can’t feel or hear the wind because you’re traveling in the exact same direction and at the exact same speed it is. A hot-air balloon has three main parts: the balloon, called an envelope; a basket, where passengers ride; and a burner system, which supplies the hot air. Most balloon envelopes are made of strong, lightweight nylon.(尼龙) They vary in size and shape, but they have to be really, really big to lift even a single person. Most weigh more than an adult man and use more fabric(框架)than you’d need to cover a baseball diamond(棒球场). The basket is usually made of wicker(柳条),which is strong but not too stiff(僵硬). It needs to bend a bit for a soft landing, just like a good jumper bends her legs instead of keeping them stiff and straight when she lands. When the burner system blasts(喷出) flames, it makes a noisy sound, but once the balloon is flying , the burner can be turned off. The air in the envelope will then slowly cool, and the balloon will gradually sink unless the pilot starts the burner again. To operate, a pilot adds hot air to the balloon to go up or deflates it to go down, until he finds a breeze blowing in the direction he wants to fly. But no matter which way the wind blows them, balloonists have an amazing bird’s-eye view of the world. 56. The envelope of a hot-air balloon is used to ____________. A. supply the hot air B. hold the hot air C. change the height D. control the direction
5

57. The soft landing of a hot-air balloon requires that the basket _______. A. should be made of nylon B. should be controlled by a good jumper C. should be a little soft D. should be big enough to lift one person 58. The following steps are involved in flying a hot-air balloon. In what order should these steps happen? ①Hot air enters the balloon. ②The balloon sinks. ③The burner is turned on. ④The burner is turned off. ⑤The balloon rises. A.③①⑤④② B. ①③⑤②④ C. ③⑤④①② D. ①③⑤④② 59. The underlined word “deflates” in the last paragraph means___________. A. releases B. charges C. flattens D. separates 60. The text is probably from _____________. A. a story about hot-air balloon adventures B. a newspaper article about hot-air balloon facts C. a brochure advertising hot-air balloon rides D. an article on hot-air balloons in an airplane magazine C Dear Mr./Ms, I would like to suggest that the starting time be changed at our school. Classes at Sebastian Valley Middle School simply start too early in the morning. Getting eight to nine hours of sleep each night is almost impossible when classes begin at 7:30 am. In order to shower, dress, get organized, eat a quick breakfast, and meet the school bus by 6:45, I would have to get up at 5:45. Early in the morning, students are too sleepy to learn well. Without enough sleep, young people cannot think clearly or enjoy learning. According to a report called “Are Students getting Enough Sleep?” From Sebastian Valley Times, “Sleepiness disturbs concentration, reduces short-term memory, and causes bad feelings.” Researchers have learned that teens normally fall asleep and wake up later than adults. Teens who stay up late at night have trouble getting up early in the morning. Studies show that some schools have already adjusted school hours to better match the teen sleep cycle(周期), as a result, students in these school are learning better on the new schedule(时间表). Some of my classmates argue that starting school an hour later will prevent them from taking part in after-school athletic programs. A solution would be to carry out these programs before school instead of after school. The students who are involved in sports and clubs would continue to arrive at the usual time. The rest of the student body could get a little more sleep and arrive an hour later. Teens usually have a later sleep cycle, and learn and behave better when rested. So I would like to suggest that we have a meeting to discuss the problem and listen to all the students’ voice. Thank you for considering this request(请求)! 61. In Tom’s opinion, classes should begin at _______. A. 6:45 B.7;30 C. 8:00 D. 8:30 62. A report from Sebastian Valley Times was mentioned in Paragraph 2 to show _______. A. the popularity of Tom’s school B. the disadvantages of lacking sleep
6

C. the importance of athletic programs D. the characteristics of the teen sleep cycle 63. As for athletic programs, Tom thinks that _____. A. they are very difficult B. they are a waste of time C. they make most students sleepy D. they may start early in the morning 64. Which of the following does Tom probably agree with? A. Sleep is food for the brain. B. Books should be few but good. C. Challenge is needed for success. D. Early to bed makes a man healthy. 65. Tom wrote the letter mainly to _____. A. put forward a suggestion B. send his congratulation C. make an apology D. express thanks

第 II 卷 (非选择题,共两节,满分 35 分)
第一节 阅读表达 (共 5 小题:每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Most people who travel from China to the US find that, even though they have studied English for years, they have to “re-learn” it upon arriving. Words that we learned in English classes are not pronounced the same way here. To truly be part of the “melting pot(大熔炉)”, speaking English fluently(流利地)is not enough. You need an accent to stand out. When I first came to the US for graduate school, I was a nervous foreigner. I felt so out of place that I wanted to hide everything about me that was “different”. To talk like an American became one of my most important tasks. So I tried to copy the way native speakers talk and, over time, I made good progress. Soon my American friends started to praise my English as having “almost no accent”. At a conference in Washington DC, someone even said: ”You speak with a Midwestern accent.” I took this as a sign of my success. People usually thought I was from California. “Why California?” I would ask. They would reply: ”Well, you certainly don’t look American, but you don’t talk like a Chinese person, so you are most likely from California. Most Asian Americans are from there.” Suddenly, conformity(一致) was no longer a compliment.(赞美) If I talk like an American, am I still Chinese? If I lose my Chinese accent, do I also lose my cultural identity(身份)? Now I realize that a person’s accent is a lasting record of their past cultural experience. An accent is often taken to mean that you haven’t learned about a culture, when, in fact, it is a mark of one’s experience of different cultures. As a fourth-year student in the US, I am no longer a nervous foreigner. My nervousness has been replaced by strongly wanting to hold on to my cultural origins(出身). Now I always speak with a bit of a Chinese “accent”. I do not wish to speak “perfect” English because I am proud of who I

am. 66. Why does the author think people have to “re-learn” English upon arriving? (No more than 15 words) 67. How did the author feel when others praised her English? ( No more than 5 words) 68. What is the author ’s most important job when she first came to the US? ( No more than 10 words) 69. Why did the author decide to speak with a bit of a Chinese “accent”? ( No more than 10 words) 70. What is the article mainly about? ( No more than 15 words) 第二节 书面表达 (满分 25 分)

My name is John. Today I want to say something mainly about my daily life. First I study all day. I used to play baseball and basketball with my classmates, but now I just stay at home and do my homework. I seldom watch TV these days, for I’m often busy preparing for my test. Books were my good friends. I used to read a lot of cartoon books instead of reading textbooks all day like now. I enjoy doing homework with my friends. But parents don’t allow me to do that, because they think we will talk instead of studying. I disagree. We can learn a lot from each other. My parents are doctors. They expect me to be a doctor too when I’m older, but I want to be a teacher. Maybe I’ll be a doctor anyway, but I don’t think I could be a happy doctor.
