But these pets carry plenty of germs and allergens(过敏原), prompting researchers to ask Are cats

and dogs really safe for children? A study finds that, contrary to many parents’ fears, owning cats or dogs does not increase a child’s risk of developing allergies, and in fact, may actually protect them. The study’s lead author, Dr. Dennic Ownby of the Medical College of Georgia, says that even he was “very surprised” by the results. Ownby and colleagues followed more than 470 children from birth to age 6 or 7, comparing those exposed to cats and dogs during their first year of life to those who were not. By using skin-prick tests for detecting common allergies, the researchers found that, contrary to what many doctors had been taught for years, children who had lived with a pet were not at greater risk. Even more remarkable, children who had two or more dogs or cats had an even greater reduction, up to 77 percent, in risk of allergies. Researchers suggest this protective effect may be the result of early exposure to lots of bacteria that are carried by dogs and cats. Exposing young children to these bacteria helps" exercise" their immune systems early in life so that they're better able to resist allergic diseases later. There's something very important in that first year of life when the immune system is developing that we can retrain it away from an allergic response, said Dr. William Davis. And while researchers are not encouraging parents to buy dogs or cats just to reduce a child’s allergy risk, they say if a family already has one or more animals, there's no need to get rid of them. 56. Why do the researchers feel “very surprised” by the results of the study? A.Because the results are contrary to their expectation. B.Because so many children are playing with cats and dogs. C.Because parents are so much worried about their children. D.Because children with animals may develop allergies easily. 57.Compared with children who have pets, those who haven’t ______. A.will lose the chance to develop immune system B.may suffer allergic diseases more often C.will reduce the harm from bacteria D.can keep doctors away 58. It can be inferred from the passage that ______. A.pets are ill-treated by their owners B.less families would like to own cats and dogs C.keeping pets is a good way to keep children healthy D.the results of the study can make families with pets feel at ease 59.The underlined word “it” in the fifth paragraph refers to________. A.the early life B.an allergic disease C.immune system D.something important 60.What may be the best title of the passage? A.How to protect your kids from allergies B.Your pets may be helping your kids C.Bacteria do good to your kids D.Advantages of owning pets B Today almost everyone knows computers and the Internet. If I ask you “What is the most important in your life?”, maybe you will say “Computers and the Internet.” The first computer was made in 1946. It was very big but it worked slowly. Today computers are getting smaller and smaller. But they work faster and faster. What can computers do? A writer has said, “People can’t live without computers today.” The Internet came a little later than computers. It is about twenty-five years later than computers. But now it can be found almost everywhere. We can use it to read books, write letters, do shopping, play games or make friends. Many students like the Internet very much. They often go into the Internet as soon as they

are free. They make friends on the Internet and maybe they have never seen these friends. They don’t know their real names, ages, and even sex (性别). They are so interested in making the “unreal friends” that they can’t put their heart into study. Many of them can’t catch up with others on many subjects because of that. We can use computers and the Internet to learn more about the world. But at the same time, we should remember that not all the things can be done by computers and the Internet. 61. The Internet cannot be used for __________. A. studying B. shopping C. thinking D. playing 62. When the computer was invented, it was__________. A. large and worked quickly B. small and worked slowly C. large but worked slowly D. small but worked quickly 63. The Internet was born in about __________. A. 1960 B. 1970 C. 1980 D. 1985 64. Students know the friends on the Internet very well. 65. What does the writer think of the Internet? A. It is wonderful. B. It can make students study harder. C. It is not good for students. D. It is helpful, but we can’t do everything on it. C You speak, write a letter, and make a telephone call. Your words carry a message. People communicate with words. Do you think you can communicate without words? A smile on your face shows you are happy or friendly. Tears in your eyes tell others that you are sad. When you raise your hand in class, the teacher knows you want to say something or ask questions. You shake your head, and people know you are saying "No". You nod and people know you are saying "Yes". Other things can also carry messages. For example, a sign at the bus stop helps you to know which bus to take. A sign on the wall of your school helps you to find the library. Signs on doors tell you where to go in or out. Have you ever noticed that there are a lot of signs around you and that you receive messages from them all the time? People can communicate in many other ways. An artist can use his drawings to tell about beautiful mountains, about the blue sea and many other things. Books are written to tell you about all the wonderful things in the world and also about people and their ideas. Books, magazines, TV and radios and films all help us to communicate with each other. They all help us to know what is going on in the world and what other people are thinking about. 66. Can we communicate with each other without words? A. Yes, some times we can. B. No, we can't. C. No. It's impossible. D. Yes, we always do so. 67. When we see somebody smile, then, he must be feeling ____. A. angry B. joyful C. surprised D. sad 68. We can learn news from____. A. newspapers B. radio C. TV D. ABC 69. A sign at the bus stop tells you ____. A. how many buses there are B. what kind of bus it is C. where the bus comes and goes D. how much money you'll pay for the ticket 70. What do you think is the quickest way to communicate with your friend in another city? A. Writing a letter. B. Making a telephone.

C. Drawing a picture. D. Asking someone else to take a message D My house is made out of wood, glass and stone. It is also made out of software. If you come to visit, you’ll probably be surprised when you come in. Someone will give you an electronic PIN (个人身份号码) to wear. This PIN tells the house who and where you are. The house uses this information to give you what you need. When it’s dark outside, the PIN turns on the lights nearest you, and then turns them off as you walk away from them. Music moves with you too. If the house knows your favorite music, it plays it. The music seems to be everywhere, but in fact other people in the house hear different music or no music. If you get a telephone call, only the nearest telephone rings. Of course, you are also able to tell the house if you want something. There is a home control console (控制台), a small machine that turns things on and off around you. The PIN and the console are new ideas, but they are in fact like many things we have today. If you want to go to a movie, you need a ticket. If I give you my car keys, you can use my car. The car works for you because you have the keys. My house works for you because you wear the PIN or hold the console. I believe that ten years from now, most new homes will have the systems that I’ve put in my house. The systems will probably be even bigger and better than the ones I’ve put in today. I like to try new ideas. I know that some of my ideas will work better than others. But I hope that one day I will stop thinking of these systems as new, and ask myself instead, “How will I live without them?” 71. What does the passage mainly discuss? A. How to develop a new system. B. The function of the PIN. C. A home for the future. D. Easy life in the future. 72. What’s the purpose when the writer wrote the fourth paragraph? A. To let readers know why his ideas are new. B. To let readers know how special his house is. C. To explain the importance of the PIN and the console. D. To explain more easily what the functions of the PIN and the console are. 73. The writer’s new house is different from ordinary ones mainly because _____. A. it has been controlled by computers B. you can make a telephone call anywhere C. it has your favorite music following you D. the writer is able to change his new idea into practice 74. What is the writer most likely to be according to the passage? A. An IT expert. B. A famous doctor. C. An idealist D. An experienced teacher. 75. What can’t be done in the writer’s new house A. turns on the lights B. play music C. get a telephone call D. go swimming 第 II 卷(主观题部分 满分 35 分) 第四部分 写作(共三节, 满分 35 分) 第一节 阅读表达(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分, 满分 10 分) 阅读下面的短文,并根据短文后的要求答题(请注意问题后的字数要求) Do you like chocolate?
