One possible version Ladies and Gentlemen, Good morning! I’m Li Hua from China. It’s my great honor to be here to say something about caring for the old. Nowadays, with the population of people aged over 60 on the increase, more and more elderly people are suffering either from loneliness or poor health, which has been a headache and social problem for many countires. As we all know, to respect and care for the elderly people is a traditional Chinese virtue. Our government has been adopting policies to care for them, such as free buses and better medical care. Of course, what they need is our respect and love. Thus, we should visit our grandparents and communicate with them more often. Besides, helping them do things that they ever did for us and serving as volunteers in nursing houses are also advisable. As for me, I often accompany my grandparents, promoting healthy ways of life, such as balanced diets, keeping pets, Taijiquan and so on. In a word, everyone will go old. So treating the elderly well is to be good to our future.

附:听力稿 Text 1 W: I didn’t come yesterday because I had a fever. Could you tell me your requirements for my term paper? M: Your paper can be about business management and should be no less than 6 pages. Text 2 M: Mary, I will play tennis with Lucy and Catherine this afternoon. But we need a fourth player. Do you want to join us? W: I’ll have a class at 3 o’clock, but Carol is free and she is really good. Text 3 W: National Bank, can I help you? M: Yes, please. What are your business hours? W: We open at 9:00 and close at 4:00 during the week, on Saturday we close one hour earlier, and we are closed on Sunday. Text 4 M: It’s been pouring for three days now. W: Tomorrow is going to be my day at the beach. But if it doesn’t clear up by then, I’ll just have to forget about it. Text 5 W: Would you like to come to Janet’s surprise party tomorrow night? M: I’m going to a concert tomorrow. I wish I could be in two places at the same time and if I could enjoy a big dinner as well. Text 6 M: I’m calling about your ad in today’s paper for a secretary. Is the position still available? W: Yes, it is. M: I’d like to apply. W: Do you have any experience? M: Yes, I do. W: And can you type 60 words per minute? M: Yes, I can. May I request an interview? W: Sure. What’s your name? M: Peter Smith. W: Is two o’clock Friday afternoon convenient for you? M: Two o’clock is fine. Thank you very much. Text 7 M: Hey, Jane. It’s a lovely painting. W: Thanks, Mark. But it doesn’t look right to me. You know, I’m just learning. M: Let me see. I think it might be the color of the sky. W: Why? The sky is blue, isn’t it?

M: Well, that depends. I mean the sunset can be full of reds and purples. W: Oh, yeah. That’s good point. M: By adding some other colors to the sky, you’ll get a more natural picture. W: I’ll try that. How do you know so much about painting? Taking some courses? M: No, actually, my father is an artist. He told me a lot about painting, and took me to different exhibitions. W: Ah, I see. I hope I can meet him some day. M: That could be arranged. Er… it’s three now, how about a cup of coffee? W: I’d love to.

Text 8 W: Hi, Dave. Nice of you to take the trouble to get here. Come on in. M: Wow. Looks as if the party is going strong. W: Yeah. And they’re eating all my food. Oh, I’d like you to meet my sister, Carol. She’s visiting for the weekend. M: Oh. Which one is she? W: She’s sitting on the sofa over there. M: You mean the woman with long black hair? W: That’s right. Let me introduce her to you. You’re very similar people , both so friendly and adventurous. M: And who’s the man sitting next to her? Uh, the man wearing the jacket? W: Oh, that’s Bob, my ballet teacher. M: Ballet teacher! I never knew you were into ballet. W: I started about two months ago. Come on. I’d like you to meet them. M: I’m coming.

Text 9 M: Hi, Ms. Rowling. How old were you when you started to write, and what was your first book? W: I wrote my first finished story when I was about 6. It was about a small rabbit I mean, and I’ve been writing ever since. M: Why did you choose to be an author? W: If someone asked me how to achieve happiness, step one would be finding out what you love doing most and step two would be finding someone to pay you to do it. I consider myself very lucky indeed to be able to support myself by writing. M: Do you have any plans to write books for adults? W: My first two novels were for adults. I suppose I might write another one, but I never really imagine a target audience when I’m writing. The ideas come first, so it really depends on the idea that catches me next! M: How do you come up with the names of your characters? W: I invented some of the names in the Harry books, but I also collect strange names. I’ve gotten them from maps, dictionaries, plants, war memorials, and people I’ve met! M: Oh, it’s amazing.

Text 10 W: Many people catch a cold in the springtime or fall. It makes us wonder if scient ists can send a man to the moon, why can’t they find a cure for the common cold? Today we want to say something about the cure. And Dr. White, a medical specialist, is in our studio today. Welcome, Dr. White. Would you please say something about the common cold and its cure? M: Well, the answer is easy. There’re actually hundreds of kinds of cold viruses out there. You never know which one you will get, so there isn’t a cure for each one. When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it. Blood rushes to your nose and causes a blockage in it. You feel terrible because you can’t breathe well. But your body is actually eating the virus. Your temperature rises and you get a fever. But the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a running nose to stop the virus from getting to your cells. You may feel miserable but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold. Different people have different cures for colds. In the United States and some other countries, for example, people might eat chicken soup to feel better. Some people take hot baths and drink warm liquids. Other people take medicines to relieve various colds. There’s one interesting thing to note. Some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus stays in you longer because your body doesn’t develop a way to fight it and kill it.
